Presented by Hagyard Equine Medical to benefit the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Foundation, the Betsy Gala and Grand Prix is held each year at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena in memory of well-known Lexington equestrian Betsy Fishback, who passed away in 2009 after battling breast cancer with tenacity, grace, and wit.
Scheduled for Friday, September 20 in conjunction with the Kentucky National Horse Show, guests will enjoy outstanding cuisine, a Bourbon tasting provided by Four Roses Distillery, a live auction and a Calcutta auction based on teams of horse and rider combinations and VIP spectating during the Grand Prix.
Betsy Fishback created quite a legacy in Lexington’s equestrian world. As one of the driving forces behind the creation of Midway College’s equine program and later coach the University of Kentucky’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association riding team, she played a key role in the education and training of many top riders, trainers and coaches around the country today. She taught riding lessons privately as well from her Trackside Farm, which she owned with her husband, Dr. William Fishback, a veterinarian at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. Betsy also helped daughters Leslie and Sarah to achieve success in the show ring.
All proceeds from The Betsy Gala directly support breast cancer research at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center.
