The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center and UK Healthcare announced today that St. Elizabeth Healthcare has joined the Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network, further expanding the coverage Markey and its affiliates are able to offer to Kentuckians throughout the Commonwealth.
By becoming an affiliate of the UK Markey Cancer Center, St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s six facilities in Northern Kentucky now have access to expanded clinical trials, educational resources and research grants available to National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers. The UK Markey Cancer Center is one of 69 NCI-designated cancer centers in the country.
“From a doctor’s standpoint, from a person who touches patients…each individual life matters,” said Dr. Douglas Flora, St. Elizabeth Physicians Medical Director. “This is not an affiliation of convenience, this is physicians sharing information – this is staff members going back and forth between facilities weekly to train each other, to share best practices. This is how we establish guidelines that make sure all of our physicians and nurses share common goals and common values and we produce common outcomes, which is ultimately shooting for a cure and prevention and screening.”
