Members of the UKPD Get Scruffy to Support the UK Markey Cancer Foundation

Members of the University of Kentucky Police Department are growing out their beards to raise awareness and money for the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Foundation. The officers are taking part in No-Shave November, a national movement aimed at raising awareness for men’s health issues. .

According to UK Chief of Police Joe Monroe, this is the first year members of the force are taking part in the effort. The UK police force has a strict policy regarding facial hair, which states that officers may not have beards, but Monroe said he is suspending the rule for the month of November.

Several of the officers have created GoFundMe pages to raise money for their beard-growing efforts.
