What We Do

Research & Clinical Trials

We understand that cancer research is the promise of what’s to come for treatments, patient care, and breakthroughs in the fight against cancer. Kentucky is home to some of the most devastating cancer statistics in the United States, including being first in incidence rate for all cancer sites, and being first in cancer mortality rate with over 10,000 deaths in Kentucky every year from cancer. Our researchers at Markey continue to develop groundbreaking research, opening new doors in laboratory, clinical, and population-based research. UK Markey Cancer Foundation prides itself on supporting this research and continues to share the common goal of conquering cancer in Kentucky.

Research We Fund:

Prevention

Markey works with cancer education programs, evidence-based research groups, local healthcare providers, and our Markey-affiliated partners to further cancer prevention and education all across Kentucky.

Our ultimate goal is simple: We want to save lives.

Prevention Programs:

Patient Support

The UK Markey Cancer Foundation seeks to make the lives of cancer patients and their families better. Our Patient Support Fund helps provide much needed support to thousands of patients that come through the doors of the Markey Cancer Center for treatment. We understand that cancer can be stressful emotionally, physically and financially and we can provide assistance with basic living necessities and transportation to help facilitate the patient’s care and healing.

Support Initiatives:

Facilities & Equipment

In addition to donating the four buildings that currently comprise the cancer center, the UK Markey Cancer Foundation has provided millions of dollars in funding for equipment and facilities necessary to be a leader in cancer research and care. This year the Markey Cancer Center became the first in the nation to acquire the Varian TrueBeam for radiotherapy. This leading-edge technology provides faster, more accurate and more comfortable treatment for patients. The UK Markey Cancer Foundation helped to procure and partially fund this life-saving equipment. In addition, the Foundation recently raised $5 million in private support toward the construction of a new cancer patient floor and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
